Stories that Travel

Counselling with Katie Alini
NZAC registered counsellor

My approach

My counselling practice is grounded in Narrative Therapy, a collaborative, non-pathologising approach that recognises people as knowledgeable about their own lives. My practice is informed by research, ongoing professional development and supervision.

I understand that the challenges we face don't exist in isolation. Our experiences are shaped by our relationships, communities, cultures and the wider social expectations that surround us.

In our conversations, we might explore the effects of problems in your life, the ways you've responded to them, and what matters to you. We might also give attention to stories about yourself that have been overlooked or overshadowed by difficulties.

Together, we can consider what you'd find useful to talk about, which stories you might wish to question or carry forward, and where our conversations might take you.

Katie Alini

Kia ora, I'm a Wellington-based counsellor offering online counselling across Aotearoa New Zealand.

I hold a Master of Counselling from the University of Waikato and am a registered counsellor with the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC), holding provisional (teina) membership and a current Annual Practising Certificate.

My background is in education, where I've worked alongside children and young people in a range of settings. This experience has shaped my interest in how relationships, communities and wider social circumstances influence people's lives.

As a Pākehā counsellor, I recognise my responsibilities under Te Tiriti o Waitangi. I remain committed to learning, reflecting on my own cultural positioning, and being attentive to the cultural values and knowledge that inform each person's experiences.

I bring curiosity and care to my work and value the opportunity to get to know each person and what matters to them. My practice is supported by regular professional supervision and ongoing professional development.
